Having FUN, Joining Area51 Radio Group for their 1st POTA activation.

Why wait until Field Day?! Great effort, involving the family and some PR for Amateur Radio! This is so simple and we all need to get into our parks regularly as they are a treasure.

 

This is way better than field day. Less stressful, the contacts can be as long or short as you want, no overly complicated exchange, and not 1000s stepping on each other.

 

Minnesota is $35 per vehicle for a 12 months from date of purchase. Grants access to all 75 state parks.

Not going to brag, They are pretty nice. Just camped out at one this weekend and did a Parks on the Air activation.

 

Have not worked you yet. But I am extremely hooked on POTA.

I’ll call the spooks at the real Area 51 in Roswell NM…maybe we can set up portable on the runway or next to the UFO crash site from 1951. Those UFOs must have had radios …maybe reactivate them? I hear SDRs really came from outside the galaxy? Best 73s….

I liked POTA. It was like the first thing that I ever thought was cool around ham radios.

then I got permanently banned from POTA, because some OM on their Facebook page got all bent out of shape.

so now I kinda look at POTA as something I hope dies pretty soon.

Paying to enter a state park that your tax dollars have already paid for. Thats ridiculous! Great activation.
