Is there a way I can delete a featured posting so I don't see it again? i.e. a youtube poster making a silly, contorted facial expression?

Nope but you can change from grid view to list view so the contorted faces are smaller. Eventually that content will rotate out and be replaced by something else anyway (another contorted face video).
If you have an adblocker running you can right-click on it and select "block element" which should remove that box but the content may just come up in another one.

 

Often with an index finger pointed skyward?

I wish there was a filter for that.
