that haze is toxic fire smoke.
the AQI is over 100 Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups and 150 Unhealthy there lately.
i would not want to hike in that air.

 

Hi KF0G, sorry for the confusion, this video is from mid-July. I got lucky and the AQI at the park was below 100 that day. Would have skipped it otherwise! Definitely wouldn't do that hike with today's AQI (140 on Airnow.gov right now). Thanks for watching!

I must admit the title 'Crater Lake...Summits On The Air" got my imagination going regarding the incongruity and cognitive dissonance.

What next: "Death Valley...SOTA!". How low can you go, to be high?

Grew up around there, spent a few summers camping around the rim, probably do not allow that any more. Fantastic vid and trip, I also run a MTR4b, good little rig. 72'

 

I don't know if they do camping around the rim anymore. Maybe during winter. I know people backcountry ski the rim. 73!

 

looks like fun! - have not been up there... doesn't look like much of a trail! - I think I'd rather go to one of the peaks that has a trail to the top! - but at any rate!!! Fun fun fun!

 

what is AQI ? I've been visiting Crater Lake several years ago in June and enjoyed it as a regular tourist.
I did not notice any smoke but heaps of snow behind the Crater Lake Lodge.
Who performed the shooting N7KOM was it you by any tricky means ?
