I think all the wifi and bluetooth is cool except in a truly hot situation one would want to keep rf emission's to a minimum. Instead your creating a constant bubble of rf at your location, This will work fine in most emergencies but let's say your a ham in Cuba or Taiwan in a Hot war. You want to hit and run an light up for a short as time as possible. None of that lends to that type of emergency. Again it's cool and all but I try to think my my rf exposure should be kept to a minimum and be as controlled as possible.
Maybe we should try and think in these type of conditions at some point along the way.

It's a valid point, but the solution to this is already been thought of. I always carry a USB cable just in case. Not only is that USB cable redundancy in case the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth fail. If you want to reduce your RF footprint, you switch over from Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and use the rake and it's traditional configuration with the single USB cable.

Great, I have to assume there is not some obscure menu option on the 705?

Not at all. Simply changing DATA OUT from WLAN to USB. For anyone using this radio regularly especially for preparedness, it's pretty simple. Besides it's not a Yaesu menu structure! The 705 is incredibly simple.

No problem. I'm so slow with getting videos out, thought it better just to include the information right then and there.
Extremely happy if someone found it useful.

wow this thread was scrubbed. Not to worry, it was archived and forwarded long before anyone thought of it. I could not have asked for a better explanation of"Tactical Ham Radio".

Another good informative video, thank you

That is another two things to add to my To-Do list

    1. setup Winlink
    2. increase the radio budget for a Icom IC705 , the FT857D will have to be retired
