Agree 100%. It's also a cure for isolation. For people with mobility issues just leaving the house can be an all day event. I have seen local clubs get people up and running who otherwise could not have physically set things up. They can also help provide low cost gear. Bbq, pizzia, chili, beer and or coffee can sometimes increase participation.

I'm sure that when I get to old age, "mentally fit" will be a matter of opinion...

    ...mentally fit, means «witty n' smart»?

Radio might help to some extend, found out tuning not my transceiver but my violin instead is gratifying too.
Was a too long hyatus, getting older allows me not bothering anymore what neighbours hear. Afterall, do them, they care about their RFI emitting stuff?

If you come into the hobby with low IQ,
You still have most of it years later.

I quite agree, I too care less about what people think as i get older.

It reminds me of the joke about an old man waiting to park his car.

As the car pulls out of a parking space a young guy speeds into the space, jumps out of his convertable & starts to walk off.
"OI !!" shouts the old man, "I was waiting for that space !"

"I'm young & fast & your old & slow so i can do that !" Replies the young man then starts to walk again.

With this the old man puts his Rolls Royce in gear & rams the car down an embankment.

The guy comes back screaming at him, "Look what you've done to my car !"

The old man just smiles & says "I'm old & rich & I can do that !"

I'm not the one who needs Viagra or a diaper.

At 56 I'll qive most youngsters a run for the money.

The ladies like us oldies, were comfortable & strong, The thing that they look forward to, Is the ride takes twice as long!

My grandad fell over in the nursing home & broke his hip, when i visited him in hospital i asked why he was creeping around in the middle of the night, He smiled & said " Don't tell your mother, Her name's Nancy! " (True story)

Many a fine tune is played on an old fiddle!
    ;)
