Dr. George Dubar Wilner of Wall Township, NJ, who was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Lincroft, died peacefully on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ.

    He was 80 years old.

Born on Dec. 7, 1940 in Bronx, NY, George retired to Wall Township, NJ at the Jersey Shore in 2015 from his longtime home at Humdinger Hill in Brunswick, NY.

George was an avid HAM radio operator under his call sign “K2ONP” and had an 80-foot radio tower. His passion for HAM radio began during his childhood in Boy Scouts and continued until his passing. He was active in many clubs throughout his life, travelling with “The Boys” to states across the country for competitions.

Throughout his life, he was a caring and giving individual. He was an animal lover and loved his dogs that meant so much to him. In his later years, George enjoyed the gym and you could find him at the Atlantic Club in Wall, five days a week.

George attended Yeshiva in NYC as a young man, graduated from George Washington University in D.C., and received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. He served his residency at New York Presbyterian-Columbia University Medical Center and Montefiore Medical Center in NY, in pathology and hematology. For nine years, George was a practicing physician with a focus on extensive research, at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.

He spent 10 years at Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis, MO. While in St. Louis, he worked in conjunction with Monsanto and a major brewing company, where he developed recombinant blood products, which Monsanto still holds many patents on to this day.

George happily spent over 30 years at Albany Medical Center, from which he retired. During his time in Albany, he served as Medical Director of the Red Cross, the Albany Medical Blood Bank and served as Director of Labs at Albany Medical College.

George loved his country and proudly served as a Lieutenant-Colonel in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was active in the reserves until 2003.

George was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Lincroft serving on various committees.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, his son, Michael Wilner and his wife, Alexa, his daughters; Jessica Pollard and Marissa Mandell and her husband, David, his eight grandchildren and his two stepsons; Gary Bickham and Steven Bickham.

He was predeceased by his brother, Harvey Wilner and his sister, Helene Wilner.

Memorial donations may be made to an animal rescue very close to George’s heart: Peppertree Rescue, PO Box 2396 Albany, NY 12220-0396, (rescue@peppertree.org) 518-435-7425.

Funeral Services are under the direction of Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, Belmar, NJ.
