The bottom line in this thread is a news update on actions taken by the ARRL in the January board meetiong.

    They all seem pretty reasonable.

Can't say the word 'progressive' is apt here, despite the alleged multifarious definitions of the word. Just not relevant.

OK. Speculate all you want. I have no interest in compromising the good heart and great works of donors. If they want you to know they will tell you.

Certainly their is nothing "progressive" in their kindness for others. It's just human nature. "Continuity" would be more apt.

There is no socialistic/communistic "progressive" conspiracy at the ARRl.

I don't understand why people are disagreeing with the ARRL on this matter. Are you having difficulty finding a VEC test session in your area? Do you feel there's a need to add another VEC to take over your area because several of the existing 14 VECs who claim to be operating in your area are not operating in your area? Are you having trouble finding three hams willing to get certified under the same VEC in your area? Is anyone claiming any or all the VECs who are operating in your area are not doing things right or well? Will adding a 15th VEC solve any of these problems? What other problems are you having that a 15 VEC would solve? (I've already answered this last question several posts ago.)

In this case, I agree with the ARRL's position on this matter.

It's not uncommon for my local club to report no one showed up for testing this month, several months in a row. It's exiting news when someone shows up and passes a tech test or upgrades. Supply overwhelming exceeds demand in my area.

    Timeline of ARRL complaints:

β€œ The ARRL is stuck in the past and never changes!”

    a little later...

β€œThe ARRL is trying to change things and must be stopped!”

    Repeating endlessly.

Self protection at the sacrifice of others is far from noble and should never be supported. Maybe I am rare in that thought but men in my family all served for the past 600 years so I am conditioned to serve for the benefit of others and not ourselves.
If we look at the history of unions representing workers or like in our case Ham operators over time they are corrupted to the point of working to the detriment of those they supposedly serve. That's why I support the militia model for unions like the ARRL.
Come together for a cause then disband once that goal is achieved. The ARRL is useless at this point. Their only direction is self survival, Not pushing forward the art but instead draining it dry. We really don't need them at all. A museum sure but everything else can be served in another way more efficiently.

As far as money goes, Were supposed to serve the public and not take from it to make sure the band gets a paycheck. They will suck money from anyone at any cost. They need to go. Sites and individuals like here at QRZ can easily step up and offer better service with better quality. We have a very good group of men an women in the Art who would gladly step up in the absence of the ARRL. They would do it better and more efficiently. If fact they already do in many areas.

    HI FRIENDS,

OVER THE YEARS, I HAVE HAD TO CALL THE ARRL
    HEADQUARTERS FOR VARIOUS HAM RADIO
    RELATED ITEMS.

    THEY WERE ALWAYS VERY HELPFUL.
IF THE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT IMMEDIATELY
AVAILABLE THEY WOULD SEND YOU A FOLLOW
UP EMAIL TO ASSIST YOU IN YOUR REQUEST.

AT PRESENT DATE, WITH THE COVID MATTER
I AM NOT SURE IF THE ARRL HEADQUARTERS
    IS FULLY STAFFED.

Evidently they don't listen, or if they do they don't comprehend very well. If they did "listen" they would have heard the loud dissent on all their various FCC initiatives and changed course. What do you say to an organization that
knows full well in advance that membership does not support something destined for the FCC but goes ahead and files it anyway? How about a BoD directive getting changed, probably by the EC, on the way to the FCC? The cherry on top is the ARRL telling membership if they want to provide input on an FCC submission to do it on the FCC site, translation: we know it's going to take heat, we filed it anyway, we don't want to deal with any complaints (constructive or otherwise), 'cuz we know what's best for the service--at least for the small segment with more insider influence than the average hamster. It's a bit embarrassing to have to withdraw an FCC petition in light of the opposing comments. Been that way for at least the last 3 decades and no sign the "listening" abilities have improved at the League.

How far back in history do you wish to go? Try RM-11306 for starters, do some research on that and you'll see just how far back things go. There's more prior to that if you look. More recently RM-11708, start to finish in less then a year
with no apparent member input. Check the comment section on the FCC site to see how popular that one was. RM-11708 was the one that K1ZZ said to comment on the ECFS. Oh, K1ZZ is also on video saying that opposition to
RM-11708 is "irrational". Attitude from the supposed national organization is not conducive to getting and retaining members.

There's a ton more of the ARRL nonsense if you want to dig for it and educate yourself. Past BoD minutes and Committee reports are also good reading, if you have an open mind and don't blindly support the League. It's not League bashing if it's true.
