Just call me when there are way less content creators.

 

Why? Why are you upset people create content and get paid for their time to create something? Some YouTube channels are a waste of time. Some are very good. A modality that is useful for many people is video instruction. If that is a modality of choice for them, "good" YouTube channels are a Godsend for them.

Many of us that are older only grew up with one modality to learn with outside of school, and that is reading. Which meant researching at a library for books. Today, there are many modalities in which someone can learn.

A book gives no feedback from the community. You have to take what the author said for granted. A YouTube channel has comments. Just like a forum. People can reply and say it is full of crap or point errors or bring in different perspectives.

In conclusion:
Some YouTube channels are a waste of time. Some are great. Stop whining.

 

Why bother calling? You'd still find a way to complain.

 

Oh. Didn't you know? That's why you make a funny face on the front page of the video. It makes it "great".

 

You do understand the English language right? I said some are (XXXXX my error), a waste of time, some are great. I did not comment on a specific video to reach a general conclusion. Cherry-picking a video that might look silly in no way invalidates my opinion or conclusion. Try again

 

I did not see it as "whining". It was just a comment. And he didn't say anything about books, so why are you whining about books?

It just seems like there are so many youtubers and podcasters anymore that they are stumbing over each other trying to come up with content, and a lot of it is pretty awful. Quantity over quality. Just like the way we license hams these days.

No. That's not what you said. You said "Some YouTube channels are a waste of time. Some are great." Unless you're trying to say that "waste of time" is the same as "good".

You really should wake up before you start posting in the morning. Get another cup of coffee to get your brain and short-term memory started.

You assume I am upset? Not the case at all. I just get a kick out of the defenders. Pretty soon we will have 100k plus channels and nothing to watch anymore. I watch maybe 6 channels at most then I do the most uncommon thing imaginable and read books.

 

To note, less content creators doesn't mean the quality will rise. You have more chance at quality content with more creators.

 

When you see where this is all heading.....

 

I do as well (read books). Some people here seem to think that the only way to learn is to read a book. Decades of research has shown that is not the best way to learn for some people. We grew up with reading because that was pretty much the main way people learned.

If one did not have access to a trusted person to teach them, they had to read to learn. And if one was reading a magazine, it was monetized, just like YouTube Channels. Plenty of advertisements and writers got paid to provide content. Most of the books in a library or one that has been purchased in "monetized"

YouTube is the same.

It is up to an individual to decide what they like to use and how best to be educated in the subject.

There are more than 100K books or magazine articles in the world and many are junk as well. YouTube is just another modality. No different than the written word.

It needs to be vetted by the individual. Some "free" or non monetized channels are just a waste of time as much as some that are monetized.

Ironically, I do not even like the OP's channel LOL. But there is value in a good You Tube video. Of course, if it is crappy, no value.

Quality gets drowned out by noise. Promoting more noise doesn't help. Like trying to have a QSO during a contest. Most looking for quality will just turn it off.
