Still cheaper than in 1970: New or renewed license: $9 ($60.09 in 2019 dollars) Modified license: $4 ($26.71) Special callsign: $25 ($166.92)
No one said anything about high taxes or getting screwed. All i said is paying taxes. Everyone's a socialist and like the idea of free until it's their turn to pay the tab...
FCC= FOREVER COLLECTING CASH !!! For this new fee the Fed's should clean up the bands !!! like 70cm & 2mtr repeaters ! & 40 & 80 while there at it then I will PAY to PLAY ! 73 Phil..
Keeping in mind that commercial radio service, cable operators, cell phone companies, radio stations, television stations run on a profit margin WE a the Amateur Radio Community don't have the luxury of making a DIME on our SERVICE! Speaking of SERVICE, who responds to natural disasters, fires, floods, hurricanes, tornado's It's not the cell phone services, the radio or television stations, it's AMATEUR RADIO operators who now will be required to PAY for the PRIVILAGE!!! Just sayin!
LOL luck of the draw it seems. I prefer craft beer instead. Maybe when I upgrade to Extra I'll get a better callsign.
We had a relatively extraordinary thing happen here recently - a large family attended a local test session, resulting in SIX new or upgraded licenses - on the same day!! I suspect having to shell out $300 would have been a pretty big deal for them. So I'd like to see ARRL lobby for some type of family discount, or waived fees for dependent kids still in school. As for the rest of us ..... Hell, given the average age of the ham community, most of us will be THRILLED to still BE HERE 10 years from now to pay our $50 or $35 renewal fee!! So I for one am looking forward to the opportunity to bitch about it when my renewal is due in 2028.
It’s always strange to me to hear about paying for license - it is free where I live, “a gift from the state”, as telecom agency officer said.
