I could site numerous transgressions and conflict of interests that have compromised the integrity of those governmental positions which are supposed to be appointed by the suggestion of our Senate - who allegedly represent us, The People, to the POTUS who then appoints them to the Chair of that agency, but instead are appointed based on whos lobbying efforts and (now legal) immense campaign contributions that attend to the interests of oligarchs instead, like the relatively recent appointee and shill for big telecom, Ajit Pai, Chair of the FCC among many others thereby marginalizing the interests of folks like us who fall under the purview of these now privatized government agencies. But I'm not going to. I can see by your posts that you are more into adversarial polemics than constructive dialogue and am not interested in being a honing block for whatever unsettled grievance you may have against what or whomever.... nothing but pointless tit-for-tat... Yes, I hear that said 'overwhelming' commercial interests gave us 'no chance'. Asserted but not shown. If those interests had led to a planned reassignment of the 3.3-3.45 GHz band, then we should expect that to manifest as an announced re-assignment. None exists.

And, pray, who is going to 'pay' for that spectrum..ATT? With what money? Have you looked at their debt profile and revenues post- acquisition of other entities?

Note that there is NO PLAN to use the 3.3.3.45 GHZ band for COMMERCIAL INTERESTS.

Our failure to secure any part of the 3.3 GHz spectrum was a failure to make the case for continued allocation. Read the response. We failed to justify spectrum because we failed to show a practical need, based on our Part 97 mission statement.

IF we had defined a viable case for a carve out, based on the Part 97 mission statement, then there was a viable chance of securing said carve out.

The fact is that the ARRL failed to make a case, in the face of an obvious approach that likely could have worked. Blaming that FAILURE on outside commercial interests is effectively enabling the ARRL to proceed with leadership in future cases , with the illusion of representing Part 97 licensees, with the likelihood of continued failure is high.

Part 97 cannot endure continued failures in spectrum allocation re-assignments.

Given the underrepresentation of the 'National Association of Amateur Radio' membership pool relative to the Part 97 license base, and the board's failure to successfully implement an allocation defense strategy(at least at microwave) with a positive outcome, there is no supporting basis for the ARRL to proceed as a leading 'voice' in future issues in this area. In fact, IMO, it would be DANGEROUS to the enterprise survival for the ARRL to pretend it has that mandate of representation, as it will likely lead to more negative outcomes, creating risk for those who are not members.

The ARRL , IMO, needs to vacate its leadership role in such allocation matters.

The ARRL needs to concentrate on matters in which it has the ability to succeed on behalf of its members.

That is a constructive and experienced suggestion from a Life Member.

Perhaps what we are seeing is constructive 'truthing' in the face of adversity. Consider that so proferred.

My commiserations on your house fire. Few things in life are so displacing, both physically and psychologically. My family faced a similar situation a long time ago, and now as an elderly adult, it still lingers in memory. Forging ahead is the only path, and you seem to know this. My best to you.

It always amazes me how hams seem to forget that as a block of voters we are basically insignificant.
Politicians do what is good for their job security and their bank accounts.

On the other hand the significant mass of voters is too lazy to even go to the NOAA web page and get
a more or less unbiased view of the weather. Instead they get the weather from the media who turn
every storm into a major disaster (so you will keep tuning in to hear/watch the commercials) or to
social media where everyone is an expert regardless of their lack of knowledge about the topic.

Realistically speaking, of what value is ham radio to the other 99.9% of the population who have the
votes? Not in OUR opinion but in theirs. I would bet that most young people don't know (or care)
that we exist and most older Americans would, if asked, says something like "we still have ham radio?".

Before we go off half cocked claiming there are conspiracies, etc. we need to be realistic about the fact that
the majority of Americans are solidly behind anyone who can help them drive distracted by watching
stupid cat videos on their phones. To them, the politicians are addressing a crucial need: more stupidity and
less problems streaming internet porn.

 

Could not agree more. Money talks, BS walks. In the realm of frequency allocations, we are no more than a tiny pimple on a blue whales ass.
