Here is the latest dual band (2m/440) radio from Radioddity! It is the Radiooddity GS-5B. You can charge its 2000 mah battery with either the wall charger or USB! This allows you to either take the charger base into the car with you or just plug the USB right into the battery. You can also program the radio over bluetooth using your phone! Along with its color screen and solid construction this radio would stand tall in your ham shack! GS-5B also uses a color screen with two different signal meters.

I would love to know how you charge a 7.4v battery from a 5v USB plug.

I do not know how it works, only that it does. The battery is thicker than your average HT battery, so I can only guess there is some sort of circuitry in there to make it work.

By using a boost-converter. Have you never wondered how a transceiver operating on 13.8V can produce 70V AC on the antenna socket to produce 100W of RF?

No, I know how it works. Radioddity is just notorious for using strange voltages to charge their batteries and incorrect voltages on standard plugs. Looks like it's Micro-USB (20v) so they should be good.

Just put two USB connectors in series. That's how I get 240 volts. (Briefly)

It is 5 Volts, Maybe 20 Watts. 5V gets boosted to around 8.2 V

My guess is that Charging is slow with a lot of RFI being produced during charging.

I have a box of those. Type into eBay's search bar "DC step up".
They start at 99 cents or less.
I have used step up & step down boards for many years. The smaller you want them the higher the cost.
Also. The more amps, (or milliamps) you need them to carry........ Again, the higher the cost.

    Ask yourself this question.
How does a Taser hit you with 50,000 volts (or more) from a 9 or 12v battery?

How about using your phone as a dual band ht?

    https://qrznow.com/rfinder-b1-ht-radio-android-dmr-and-fm/

I have one, and it works everywhere, no programming cable needed. Battery life is a day and a half, 7.2v 2100 ma. 2 sim card slots for two phone numbers. I am very pleased with it...

    Cheers.
