Hamvention® spokesperson, Michael Kalter, W8CI visited DX Engineering to speak to the amateur radio community regarding the hard decision to cancel Hamvention.
Refund info from hamvention.org: 1. Mail in a request for a refund. 2. Mail in a request to exchange your ticket for a ticket to the 2021 event. 3. Consider your purchase a donation. I'm going to opt for option 3, and hope you will as well. The amount won't break most of us, and DARA no doubt has some fixed costs associated with the event that have already been paid for/budgeted for. Until next year. . .
You can let them know by email at tickets@hamvention.org If you want to do it by phone, the number to call is BR-549
Better to make a painful decision than to risk a painful and deadly illness that many of us may or may not recover from fully ,given the age many of us are . I'd have better odds hitting a giant jackpot in a Vegas casino, if one was open that is. 73 to all.
3. Consider your purchase a donation. Cancel is best for all concerned . I have planed my vacation around this time , but my wife and I have decided not to go anywhere. Maybe next year will be the best one you have ever gone to. My guess is venders and manufactures will miss this year and plan A bigger -Better participation for next year. Best of luck DAYTON
Why not just reschedule it a month or so in the summer? Besides the weather is better. Dayton is risk every years because of the rain. Now is a good time to change its date.
Thanks to DARA, and the team of Hamvention organizers, for making the difficult decision. I think you made the right call. I will donate my ticket fee and hope to be there next year !
Many health officials and epidemiologists are predicting that the summer weather will not have a significant impact on the virus, so delaying it by a month wouldn't help the situation much. It could last up to several months; in fact, that's what experts are predicting it will. Anyways....donating your registration is a great idea! +1 to that: many large events of this type, especially not being corporate-backed, don't have the funds to survive being out a year. So go donate to them and reregister next year.
Since we can't go to Dayton maybe amateur radio operators can still be of assistance Analog ventilator construction Coronavirus, amateur radio help needed Engineers, technicians and electronic assembly projects https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?threads/analog-ventilator-construction-coronavirus.697201/
I agree with the idea of Time Change. How about late August or early September? Plenty of time for things to get back to normal. MCWGA! Just say NO to FT-8.
