Fellow Hams and Raspberry Pi Enthusiasts,

I am pleased to announce the release of version 2 of the Raspberry Pi Ham Radio Image I've been working on. It has additional applications since version 1, such as Pat WinLink for EmComm, wxtoimg for receiving weather images from NOAA satellites, and D-RATS for D-Star users. I have also included a number of ham-radio related wallpapers you can set the background to. See below for more information.

I have confirmed this image starts up successfully on the Raspberry Pi Model 2 B as well as newer Raspberry Pi boards. However, some of the applications require more CPU power than the Model 2 can provide, so YMMV.

You can download it from either: http://bit.ly/W3DJSRasPiv2ImgCompressed or via BitTorrent. Thanks to fellow Ham Norm Schklar, WA4ZXV, for hosting the image on his Google Drive.

Please send me any comments or concerns via email to w3djs@arrl.net.

    -Dave Slotter, W3DJS

Could you (re)post the torrent link? HRCC just did a video on you so you're going to get some traffic...

Torrents have very legitimate uses. For smaller projects in particular, they can lighten server loads and provide faster downloads.

Correct! We put up a torrent to distribute the load when everyone tried to download from Google at once, causing the server to seize up and start rejecting traffic.

    David,
I really appreciate this image. Thanks for your work. Is there a doc explaining how to switch it from hotspot to LAN? I can get onto it via it's hotspot. I can turn the hotspot off and on but I can't work out how to activate the ethernet after the hotspot is off.

    Hi Alan.

Thank you for reaching out about this issue. This has been a common one, unfortunately.

To remove the auto Wi-Fi hotspot and make all networking perform "normally", do these two steps on the Raspberry Pi console:

    sudo systemctl disable autohotspot.service

In the /etc/dhcpcd.conf file remove the line that was added ("sudo nano /etc/dhcpcd.conf"):

    nohook wpa_supplicant
That's it as far as removing it. You can now reboot and wait for the GUI's WiFi menu to become populated with the local SSIDs or go to the console again and run sudo raspi-config and select 2: Network Options, followed by N2: Wi-Fi and enter in your WiFi SSID and passphrase. In addition, the Ethernet will also behave normally.

    Hope this helps!

    73,

Wow - thanks - I was sooo close - looking at that nohook line (but no cigar). Just got my licence here - as soon as I get a QSL card together I will send it. Thanks again
