I been building trackers for balloons for many years.Joined dozens of groups and forums for just about everything and anything I take an interest in.Point is,never fails someone knows more about stuff than people that actually do it.Gets mind boggling after awhile.Us HAB folks have heard everything under the sun in regard to the NEGATIVES of building and launching tracking balloons.Some about the environment,bunches about aircraft dangers and some about interference of 10mw transmitters.Until those that know so much take time to research,build these things,they have only 2 choices...say nothing or ask more questions.Nothing more nothing less.People introduce new exciting things to ham radio which ADVANCE the hobby...we need more people to advance with it and like to share what we do.I personally do it as ordinary ham radio activities bore me to death.SWL since I was 12 yrs old...I can turn the rig on now and hear the exact same conversations...any band,any mode. Becomes robotic after awhile. Give those of us that live outside the bubble do what we do !

 

To answer any and all questions about these dangerous balloons and payloads...we can simply do the work and even contact the same Government that granted you a Ham license about the safety of these things.Go directly here,gather all the info you need and ask them what THEY think about aircraft dangers. So much easier to ask your Federal Government rather than us stupid amateurs.They fly much larger payloads and balloons...I think 6 lbs maximum is legal in USA. We are flying stuff @ 6 grams

Sadly,all too often people will share something to a forum in hopes to find others interested.
In most cases this is rare.
In a perfect world you are either interested and want to to know more or you pass by without comment.But again...all too often people are compelled to just say something even if they know nothing about the subject.I have learned in this particular hobby PILOTS love to jump right in.Not as to help or add anything to the subject,but rather to take an opportunity to tell everyone they are a pilot and point out how smart they are.Another one I recall was an environmentalist...that was the most ridiculous of most.Then the"concerned" Barney Fife types feeling a need to educate us all on the rules and regulations of ham radio and how these 5 gram 10mw transmitters are an interference issue or illegal to transmit globally according to band plans.But yet...there are no rules in place for long duration transmitter flights to date YET ! So you most likely were having fun...but in the texting world there is no way to tell.
We are all guilty of texting and sending the wrong messages . I mastered that long ago

 

So according to the FAA, Juan has canceled the balloon flight. Apparently he was MOST rude to the FAA inspector as well, and even hung up on him (Juan hung up on the FAA).
Guess time will tell huh?

 

How did you find this out? I see their web page says all four planned launches have been cancelled with no further explanation as to why.
