MIAMI HIGH ALTITUDE CIRCUMNAVIGATING BALLOON PROJECT·

MIAMI HIGH ALTITUDE CIRCUMNAVIGATING BALLOON PROJECT plans to launch four High Altitude balloons that should reach an altitude of approximately 10,000 meters (32,800 feet), hopefully circumnavigating our planet Earth.

They are tentatively scheduled to be launched in November 2019, December 2019, January 2020 and February 2020.

Each balloon voyage after launch should be trackable. They will be carrying a very light payload powered by Solar Cells, with GPS and sensors capable of transmitting in HF in Hybrid WSPR Mode every two minutes during daylight: its ID, Location, Altitude, Temperature, and Voltage.

Their documentation states they will send their telemetry in Hybrid WSPR mode. I'm not familiar with the hybrid form of WSPR. Does it rearrange the decoded material to make it easier to see the voltage, temperature, altitude, and other data in place of the usual SNR, grid, power, etc.? Is this the spreadsheet "decoder" or has there been an application created that's easier to use?

Does the balloon circle around the earth or does the earth rotate under the balloon?

Hopefully, the balloons will join the Jet-stream when reaching altitude. Then they should start their voyage around the planet, if they survive storms and other hazards, one of which is that its payload could stop transmitting...

One OUNCE has 28.5 GRAMS... Our payload weight only about 8.5 Grams. Our balloons are inexpensive like Party Balloons and the gas is pure Helium.
Hundreds of weather balloons are launched each day with payloads of several pounds.

If that is the case just for safety they really need ADS- B reporting transponder, since the payload is over 10,000/18,000 ft and not higher than 60,000, for aircraft safety, FAA law on 1/ 2020 requires aircraft,to be in compliance

Every balloon launch, someone has an issue about aircraft collisions.

You should just copy the text and post it as soon as you open the topic, that way you get it over with.

 

Apparently these are not really high altitude balloons it's a different scenario than most balloon launches I've been around where they go up to 60 to 100,000 ft in a very short amount of time. This has been pointed out by others also. The group posted that it would be in the thirty thousand foot range which is where all the commercial Aviation Airline transport exist.
When the next passenger jet you're on section one of those things in it won't be such a joke then.
I saw a skydiver get struck by a balloon and it darn near killed him about 10 years ago,
I don't have any problems with balloon launches as long as everyone knows where they're at, That's why the ADS-B program has been launched for all control airspace, to help avoid collisions worldwide

 

Flying below 60,000 feet at night these special visibility requirements from the FAA apply, along with all the other nations that they're flying over.




To get approved five mile visibility even using modern LED it would definitely suck their payload battery down.
Flying above 60000 feet you don't have to worry about that kind of stuff
