    John J. Bennett, KE8BMI SK

Clarksburg, Ohio - John Jay Bennett, 49, of Chillicothe entered his final sleep on July 23, 2019.
He was born December 2, 1969 to Willard D. Bennett Jr. and Sharon L. (Holdridge) Bennett. \
Jay was loved by everyone who knew him. He enjoyed both intelligent conversation and completely silly talk. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He was extremely intelligent and he never tired of telling his family how smart he was.
He loved books, amassing a small library that he willingly shared with friends and family, and he stubbornly clung to the Oxford comma.
He never married, but Jay loved to spoil his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick, and his mother.
He leaves behind to grieve: his father; his brother, Chuck and sister-in-law, Heather; nephews, Jacob (Gabi) and Noah Bennett; nieces, Shaughnessy Bennett and Elizabeth Frum; and a great-nephew Charlie Bennett.

He is also survived by several friends who were as close as brothers: Chris (Becca) Wiseman, David (Jill) Hutchison and Matt (Mindy) Hutchison.

Jay proudly served his country in the United States Navy Nuclear Power Program.
One of his favorite possessions was his Navy ring and it will be a constant source of bittersweet comfort to his family.
Though he will be missed, his friends and family are comforted by the fact that Jay had a relationship with his heavenly Father and trusted in Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah, and we know we will see him again.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2019 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Chris Wiseman officiating.

Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 9 a.m. until time of service on Friday.

Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 142 Honor Guard from Waverly, Ohio.

You may sign his online register at http://www.warefh.com

    RIP, All Silent Keys:
We lose our Friends, our Colleagues in this Avocation. It's a Road that usually starts with the advent of a Crystal Radio, or "discovering" distant AM Mediumwave, or through an Elmer who is sometimes Family. Or becomes "Family".

As kids, we think that when we connect that VOM up to a resistor and a battery and find out that Ohm's Law actually is True, "we" are the first to "discover" it...THE "Secret!"

For many of us, it becomes part of our own coming of age and possibly leads to our Vocation.

It Opens Doors that we dreamed not of. And each Generation of hams experiments with components, devices with specifications that were previously unobtanium, techniques that the previous only dreamed of..

All that is ever left are the discoveries (still being made and always will be) and the Spectrum, itself.
    And the Memories.

A Ham will go to Mars's and beyond. And remember being a kid, radio, and his Elmers.

This is the continuum that dictates that we be Good Stewards of the Airwaves, and the others that went before us.

Radio is a Science, a Mystery, and a Wonderment, much like growing up is. We should consider ourselves Lucky that in our case, they managed to intersect: It really makes for a life well spent. And It's why we remember our Silent Keys. Always. Always!

My long-time friend and co-worker from Motorola, Bob Gunther, K9EWR, passed away on May 21 of this year. Services were held at St. Vincent Ferrer Church in River Forest, IL.

I have not found an online obituary. For verification I attempted three times to upload a PDF of the weekly bulletin from the church which mentions him on page 4, but after the upload completes I keep getting a security violation notification.

    RIP, Bob!

    73,

    John, K9MM

My late father's younger brother, my uncle, Ed Becker, WB8IPS, passed away on April 16, 2019 at the age of 95. No obituary was published.

Ed was inspired to become a ham in the late 1970's by my interest in the hobby.

    RIP, uncle Ed!

    73,

    John, K9MM

David O Hayhurst returned home to the Lord on September 11, 2019 at the age of 66. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Floyd and Jane Hayhurst in 1953. In 1974, Dave married Phyllis in Sturgis, Michigan. Married 44 years, she was always the love of his life.

Dave spent 43 years of his professional life serving public communications systems. Following his retirement from the City of Fort Wayne Indiana as head of its radio shop, Dave began a second career with the State of Michigan developing and managing its statewide radio system.

Dave was an active member of Brookside Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana; Pennway Church in Lansing, Michigan; and finally Trinity Church in Lansing, Michigan. He played bass in the worship team of all 3 churches and could often be found installing or fixing speakers, lights and amplifiers for each. Dave enjoyed driving his Corvette, spending time at the lake, taking trips with his wife, but he most enjoyed spending time with his four sons and six grandchildren. In his lifetime Dave supported those he loved by attending hundreds of soccer games, swim meets, performances, awards nights and graduations.

Dave is survived by his wife Phyllis Hayhurst (Eichorn) of Sturgis, MI; son David & Ami Hayhurst of Ada, MI; son Jon & Amanda Hayhurst of Pendleton, IN; James Hayhurst of Lansing, MI; son Ben & Nicole Hayhurst of Holt, MI; brother Bruce & Lynn Hayhurst of Newnan, GA; and sister Barbara & Ed Blessman of Mukwonago, WI. He will be forever loved and celebrated by his family and friends. In his words, he "won the race".

Funeral Services will be held, Monday, September 16, 2019, 11:00 AM at Trinity Church, 3355 Dunckel Rd., Lansing, MI, with Pastor Marvin Williams officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends, Sunday, September 15, 2019, from 5-7 PM at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Holt Chapel, 5035 W. Holt Rd., Holt, MI. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Compassion International or the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in memory of David. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.palmerbush.com.
