Can’t wait to hear the people who will stop by and complain about soundcard digital modes, automated op whining, people who assume all the JT/FT modes are “automated”, the “not real ham radio” people, people who hate the exchange, people who just have to announce that they won’t use it (Kind of like the people who pop up and say they’ve never watched Game of Thrones when someone talks about Game of Thrones), blah blah blah ad nauseam.

Oh wait, they’re already here. Hams are so predictable.

    bahahahaha

Yeah, I think that's the upcoming FT-0 I mentioned in my earlier post---and on second thought, don't wake me up when that happens---no need!

The quest for ham radio contact automation using computers really isn't new. I remember at least one magazine article from the late 1960s which showcased a fellow who had his ham rig linked to a simple computer which he had built and it could make unattended contacts on CW and RTTY and log them on paper via the TTY printer. I think that it had a reel-to-reel tape machine too :). Was quite cool then because it was an isolated case & something special. Just the sheer mechanics of it were something to behold.

Nowadays its common place, nothing special, and quite ho-hum to me. Ok for those who like such and I suppose better than not using the frequencies at all. But its never been my bag.....I like digital modes such as RTTY and PSK31 wherein most times you are talking with an actual person. And yes, I'm a long time CW op as well because I like it, and I understand the tradition, importance, and necessity of the skill.

So if you like FT8,FT4, etc. with automated contacts then by all means have fun. If you don't like it then no worries - there are many other frequencies which you can use.

Will FT4 be utilized within the existing FT8 passband?
    -or-
Is there a list of proposed FT4 frequencies?

I had to listen to my daughters, their aunts and assorted cousins discussing G.O.T at Easter dinner on Sunday. It went on forever and I had no clue what they were talking about. I just kept stuffing my mouth with delicious ham. :D

When i study all the arguments from the "pro digi mode" folks and the inventors
i am very sorry to say that this reminds me of socialism or even communism..why?Well the try hard as hell to take all competition and effort out of the sport.
    But honestly,whats left then?
Will there be anyone left buliding big contest stations or eme arrays etc..?
i rejoined the DL radio club for a year, after 22years away from them.
To my surprise i only found ONE GUY from the 33 local members that knew how to do cw,but nearly all of them had indoor antennas,or sometimes a 30ft wire and ALl did these didgimodes. And all of there stuff was bought,100%..
So,yeah.I think this is ruining ham radio.Big time!
    Sorry,
    Ollie DJ2TX

By choice? If not, digital modes saved hamradio for them.
