In this circumstance, writing to the ARRL would have been a waste of time. The contest in question is sponsored my CQ Mag, not the ARRL. As much as I dislike the ARRL, they're blameless on this one.

Oh, and as a side note, this is my standard response to contest complainers and haters.

So what happens to the CQ contests if CQ Magazine goes under?

Since this was an ARRL contest I looked up the ARRL band plans.

It looks like with the exception of 7.040, RTTY and CW should not be anywhere near each other.

CQWW WPX isn't an ARRL contest.

You're right. Are the band plans the same?

CQ WPX: Observance of established band plans is strongly encouraged.

ARRL: A band plan refers to a voluntary division of a band to avoid interference between incompatible modes.

    7.040 RTTY/Data DX
    7.080-7.125 RTTY/Data

IARU Region 1 band plan for 40 meters excludes RTTY below 7040 kHz. On 20 meters, most RTTY is above 14070. So, any international contest is going to avoid using those areas. Surprisingly, contesters avoid FT8, (like me!) because its hard to decode with all the warbling going on there. So, there is plenty of space that CW ops can use where there is no RTTY. You're just too lazy to move!

WPX RTTY event is long over. No need for further commentary on an event long past
