Wondering if listening/watching N6AA's talk changed your opinion at all?

Nope. He seemed reasonable and thoughtful. I don't see that he is disdainful of members in general or vulgar.

One may disagree with his positions and opinions, but that doesn't make him a bad representative.

It's precisely the positions and opinions stated by N2YBB in this webinar that make him a bad representative, IMO.

Such as the position by N2YBB that its OK to issue a censure of a long term Director for a deceptive reason. According to N2YBB his vote for it had little to nothing to do with anything that transpired in Visalia, it was about his personal history of objectiving to N6AA's tone and style. And apparently its then OK with him that ARRL HQ subsequently issues official press releases to the membership about the censure that can be perceived as untruthful, a smoke-screen, BS.

Such as the position by N2YBB that he thinks non-transparency is justified because of the threat of lawsuits. When the first defence against lawsuits is TRANSPARENCY. Lawsuits often result simply to enable the use of DISCOVERY to reveal the truth. That doesn't mean it will always work for a plaintif. In the Ames case the ARRL prevailed because they were found to be operating within the letter of the law. Did it have to go that far?

Such as the position by N2YBB that a lawsuit was inevitable. Of course it isn't. And it's not necessary to change the bylaws to insulate the BoD against legal action. The first insurance against lawsuits is NEGOTIATION. A lot less "New York swagger" and a bit more "Midwestern Nice" would go a long way. The ARRL is a mostly VOLUNTEER organization, not the military. From the info released, ARRL HQ and EC of which he is a member (not even the full BoD) did very little to try to communicate or settle the NTS situation, an alleged conflict between HQ and Field staff, before taking unnecessarily heavy handed action. A conflict which was not actually seriously detrimental to the League, except after they took the action they did. On the contrary, from a remote members POV, it could be positive thing that some in the NTS had developed a direct connection with FEMA which they were willing to share with HQ. Try to make it work by first disclosing to membership the difficulties that may require changes (maybe at HQ too?), ie, use peer pressure leverage first.

Such as the position by N2YBB that its OK to carve up the NTS organization at such levels, or his buddy NY2RF dismissing high level positions like CTO, etc, without first a full board consensus or concurrent disclosure of an overall strategic plan moving forward with discussion and membership input. Again, keep membership involved, or risk their ire later.

Such as the position by N2YBB that pivotal primary legislation like ARPA deserves to be crafted solely with advice from the in house ARRL General Counsel. Or that in his vision, the possible trade-off of a few less "elite" DX / contest superstations versus a sudden mass of HOA hams with 15ft flagpole HF radiators and G5RV's @ 20ft AGL in a declining solar cycle is a really good thing.

Such as the position by N2YBB that he is a helpless under appreciated victim, receiving excessive flack, abusive communications, from members, again implied as mostly from the elite "DX / Contester" minority, which happens to be the vast majority of ACTIVE OTA amateurs, for whom their precious advertisers are the biggest target market. Preposterous.

Be that as it may, I'm not totally happy with all I hear in the N6AA video either. A bit old fashioned. But far more good representation.

    Whoa there!
You are reading too much into some of his statements, and conflating other actions of the board that have nothing to do with this phone conference.

Stick with the material at hand and stop exaggerating.

Nope. No reading. His words verbatim. All issues touched on in his monologue or answers.

Nope, again. You are reading meaning into simple statements, and conflating unrelated actions and positions that were never mentioned in his teleconference!

If you prefer a low energy, figure head drone representing your interests in Newington, then Lisenco isn't your man.

If so, then that's an even more primary issue.

In your apparent depiction N2YBB's conferencing with members is intentionally ambiguous and evasive to the point where all his positions and opinions in such forums are to be considered "soft" and without meaning.

Bad representation, IMO. Your's obviously differs.

No, John got it right. You don't need to read anything into any of the statements made by NY2BB, they speak for themselves, rude, vulgar, condescending and some uninformed. Ask Rita how she feels after the answers she got and then
summarily dismissed. This is just more exposure of the leadership problems that led to the current mess at HQ.

Those traits, or their flip-side, notwithstanding, all ARRL Directors and Officers should not repel nor denigrate input from any well meaning competent member, behind their back or to their face.

Rita was not summarily dismissed. He spent at least five minute talking with her. She made only general comments/questions that did not deal in specifics. First that N2YBB follow the laywers' advice on HOA/CC issues, and second that he "listen" to the advice of DX'ers and Contesters.

    N2YBB explained:
    1. He was familiar with the lawyers' recommendations but they were not appropriate and that the lawyer was by his own admission a Land Use lawyer and not experienced in HOA/CC zoning fields.

    2. That acting solely in the interest of DXers and Contesters would be elitist.

Rita pushed these points in the same general wording at least three or four times without amplifying, explaining or giving key points. Her approach was poorly worded and imprecise.

Which is exactly what Lisenco was talking about when he indicated things need to be more collegial among the leadership members in HQ.

Less threats of lawsuits over mere disagreements and members writing nastygram emails to HQ likening Lisenco to Adolf Hitler and that sort of nonsense etc. etc...

N2YBB was on the EC that voted for firing W3JY from his NTS position which ignited the big lawsuit. It's disingenuous justifying such heavy-handed action and then expressing surprise and exasperation for being taken to court and causing such disruption. It takes two to tango. The ARRL EC made a very bad judgement.

That matter, the ARRL HQ / Regional NTS / FEMA contact "triangle conflict" when it met resistance, should have been made public to League membership for help in resolution, with input back through the full BoD, before any staff changes at that level.

If you're in the Hudson Division and you're happy with this kind of representation there's no point in this discussion. How about it Hudson Div., are you guys and gals happy and approve of this kind of behavior?

N2YBB danced around Rita's questions. Her prep could have been better and she probably feels more badly about that then any rudeness. Perhaps caught off-guard by his defensive tone off the bat she was overly polite.

    1. It's absurdly ignorant at best, evasive spin at worst, to say K1VR is simply a "Land Use" lawyer without HOA experience. See his book "Antenna Zoning", link below. Search HOA.

    http://197.14.51.10:81/pmb/TELECOMMUNICATION/Antenna Zoning.pdf

Equally outrageous to then imply that the ARRL General Counsel, a lobbyist more then a litigator, is more of an expert in HOA/CC when his official bio only states "land use".

    http://www.imlaylaw.com/

And also to disregard other legal opinions from other ham attorneys, such as from N3JT, or numerous non-ham lawyers who may indeed be HOA specialists that have been consulted by hams to give opinions. This attitude is insulting to the common-sense of members.

    2. Forget the "elitist" gaslighting, pivot and spin. He knew the question was that wording in such legislation could work AGAINST the interest of DXers and Contesters; WOULD THAT BE GOOD FOR AMATEUR RADIO? It is a primary contention with the current ARPA bill language.

It's NOT a good idea, IMO. How could any reasonable ham think otherwise.
