First the "WOW!" signal in 1977, discovered by Jerry Ehman. (AC8IV ?) And now perhaps another, the so called "WHAT?" signal. ET phoning in to this weekends CQ VHF contest? 73 de John - WØPV http://phl.upr.edu/library/notes/ross128
CQ ran a similar story a few years back. Seems there are all kinds of bizarre radio signals that come from space.
This is an honest assessment of a transient signal that needs to be confirmed. It is of unknown origin, and no speculation is justified until confirmed and additionally investigated. The magic word here is 'dispersion'. That means 'distance'-- differential time of arrival over a frequency range caused by a column density of plasma, presumably tenuous and distributed over a long(many kiloparsec) length. It caught my attention. Worth following John. Thanks for pointing it out. 73 Chip W1YW
Are they absolutely sure it was not my feeble attempts at CW? It is quite interesting. Suppose they find a true "signal"? I can understand how they might authenticate it as a true broadcast signal, buy how would you ever learn the meaning. Could be quite frustrating, but fun.
