Radio supplier Baofeng has changed its product distribution
name to Pofung for all sales outside China. In an
announcement on its website the company says that it feels
it's time to adapt its brand to the global stage. It notes
that the current name Baofeng is a literal translation of
it's Chinese character name, and as such it may be difficult
for a hobbyist elsewhere in the world to pronounce. The
company say that its new product name of Pofung is easier to
pronounce and more friendly to its customers, while
maintaining the phonetic symbolism of its brand. The
company's official web domain www.baofengradio.com will
    remain unchanged.

    A different interpretation

Hmmm, I think I get it. "Po" as in "Poor" or inexpensive. "Fun" as in "Enjoyable to use." And the "G" stands for "Gadget".
So, It is an, "Inexpensive Enjoyable Gadget." (c) 2014 W4YBB.
Can someone post the Chinese character representing the name?

Yeah, I heard this a while ago. Very interesting. And it seems like they've got a new line of radios too. Not sure. All I know is that I love my UV-B5. I think it's Wouxun's turn now. Unless they're too old and submit to Pofung.

Per Google Translate (take it for what it's worth), "Baofeng" is "宝丰". (Simplified Chinese)

Reminds me of the 1980's TV commercials for Isuzu automobiles...Some nerdy white guy keeps trying to pronounce it correctly and makes a mess of it everytime. His Japanese colleague then hangs his head in resignation saying "...that's OK, I can't say "Cheb-ro-ray" (Chevrolet).

For me, I'll stick with my Yaesu gear. (properly pronounced YEAH-soo, not YAZZ-zoo, like most fellows call it.)

Chinese has many characters which have the same pronunciation but different meanings.

Google Translate can only guess at which characters baofeng might be.

In this case, Google Translate picked the wrong character for feng.

The correct characters for the company Baofeng are 宝锋 as can be seen at the Chinese version of its website.

Maybe it's backwards: GNUFOP ..G-NUF-OP (good enough for most operators).

They obviously need some help in marketing. It can not be any better as Pofung than it was as Baofeng in any language except maybe Chinese! With all the words in all the languages of the world, including those that don't use Roman letters, this is the best they could come up with? Now we know where all the profit from their overpriced radios goes!

They should have changed their name to "The radio formerly known as Baofeng."

    They could have this logo:
