View Full Version : Help wiring a Yaesu MH-31 to a Yaesu VX-2000V

Hi Folks,

I've got a Yaesu (Also go by Vertex Standard) VX-2000V that I've cleaned up and re-programmed for my local repeaters and simplex channels - its picked up transmissions, but the only problem is I don't have a microphone for it. I do have a spare Yaesu MH-31 and I have plenty of CAT6 cable and RJ-45 plugs, so I was hoping I could make a patch lead from the mic to the radio.

I've looked online at the VX-2000V service manual (http://www.repeater-builder.com/yaesu-vertex-standard/pdfs/yaesu-vx-2000v-service-manual.pdf) and found this web page (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/rg4wpw/mh31a.html) about the mic, but I am not sure the two will work. I've never wired a mic before :)

The service manual give these details for the radio:

1 - PTT
2 - Hook SQ
3 - Mic In
4 - 9V
5 - Clone Data
6 - Clone SW
7 - GND

The web page gives these details for the mic:

1 - Fast Scan
2 - Ground
3 - PTT
4 - Mic
5 - Mic Ground
6 - + 5 Volts
7 - Up
8 - Down

So I can work out as much as:

Mic Radio
2 7
3 1

But please could someone help with the rest? I'm not even sure I'm going to be able to use this because of the 5/9V difference.
