November, five years ago, saw the start of discussions to put the RSGB GB2RS News Bulletins, in the form of a podcast "on the cyber-air".

Jeremy, G4NJH had been producing the news bulletin in MP3 format for some time for re-broadcasters to relay the RSGB Sunday broadcast to all parts of the UK and beyond. Jeremy was also publishing these files on his website so that not only the re-broadcasters but anyone wanting to hear the broadcast could download and listen to it on their PC or MP3 player. This was not however compatible with the social-media automated download podcast format and provided no archive for earlier editions to be accessed.

The creation of a podcast format version of the RSGB News had been attempted previously but unfortunately had stopped and the RSGB was unable to find who had been creating them. So with the approval of the RSGB, Jeremy G4NJH and Ed (at the time VK2ARE, later VK2JI and now DD5LP) worked together to create a new GB2RS podcast. Technical set-up and tests took until mid January 2011. Since then the podcast has been published every single weekend without fail, despite some "geographical considerations" from time to time. The podcast has been created from Australia, The US, The UK, New Zealand, Switzerland, Italy and Germany and on a couple of occasions from waiting lounges in International airports.

To find the latest edition of the podcast, simply search on "GB2RS" on either iTunes or The Lounge or to hear the file on-line with the full script, go to http://gb2rs.podbean.com

For the last six months or so, the GB2RS News Broadcast has also been available from our friends at TXFactor. The presentation style of the TXTalk program, which is not intended for rebroadcast over repeaters in the UK, is different and some may prefer it. To find this podcast, simply search on TXTalk on iTunes or through Google.

Whichever version you listen to, (or indeed if you listen on-air) we hope you will enjoy the relay of the RSGB's weekly GB2RS news broadcasts.
