I use this one myself:

COMET 2M/440 17'8" N BASE ANT

And while you didn't mention 70cm, it never hurts to be prepared

Working good for me: http://home.comcast.net/~buck0/ll_coolj.html

I stuffed mine inside of a 5' piece of 1" Sch 40 PVC pipe, painted black.

J-Poles are popular. I have about 4 or 5 Cushcrud Ringos up here.

If you can find one... a Butternut 2MCV-5 double trombone.

Otherwise, a copper J-Pole works wonders.

Difficult to beat an Arrow dual band J-pole for a good, general purpose fixed station antenna. Tough, inexpensive, effective and they perform well for FM type stuff. Repeaters, simplex, some satellites, etc.

Got 2 here - had 'em for over a decade. Just as nice as the day they arrived UPS.

If you really want to go big on omni-directional gain (h plane)- look for collinear arrays. For more serious gain - you'll do better with a directional array (yagi - yes, they can be vertical too). But first - may help if you explained what your operational goals are. Collinear arrays don't do satellite so well, not good for fixed stations in hilly terrain, etc. Seems many - special newer hams - have a tendency to 'over antenna' their fixed station installs. Dosen't hurt much - but does cost more and may unnecessarily raise their noise floor.

Hustler G6-144. Built like a tank, great gain.

oh, and a Ringo for stone simplicity, light weight, small size (no real gain).

Bill.
