Default FT-857D Audio Problems

Hi, all.

I had to reset my FT-857D because I couldn't switch it from TUNER to CAT (the default). Now I don't hear much of anything out of the speaker. The meter is pegged at S9 in several modes on several bands, but no coaxes or antennas are connected. No audio is heard through the internal speaker or headphones when connected. This happened to me before and I sent it off for warranty repairs, and they sent it back after finding nothing wrong with it. There must be a knob that I need to put in some position or something. I did a complete factory reset--any ideas?

Thanks!

Did you have the RF gain control set to squelch before, and now it is set back to the default of RF gain and turned half way up, or down?

That's what it sounds like to me, too -- the RF gain control is turned all the way down, or nearly so.

Thumbs up

Very good.. the 857D is a great radio for what it is, but man it can be tough learning how to do everything on it.

My Flex3000 is a piece of cake compared to it!
