Are there any TS-450 experts on here??
Thanks,

Whats the question then maybe an expert will give you a reply. Many people know a lot about that rig without being an expert.

No, didn't fix it and not fast. Guess I should have said "expert" who does repair work and is not a Kenwood shop. My much loved, but not too heavily used, TS-450SAT is behaviing erratically. It will tune up perfectly (tuner off) into my MFJ tuner and end fen ant. Then the swr will go up and the power fold back. It's maddening, will be fine until I start calling rare DX, then mess up again! I've banged on everything, but found nothing loose.
I'm not afraid of repair work on anything "conventional", but, painful to admit, really don't want to deal with the computerized hungle in this thing, partly because there's a fair probability i'd make it worse!
I'll check out the list one responder sent. Feel free to pass on ideas.
Thanks,

Does it also do this when the rig is connected to a dummy load ?
What did you observe?
Hows the patch cords looking these days?
This is what I would suspect. I have heard of solder joints on the SO-239 connector on the rig, being an issue as well (haven't looked at mine, in all fairness though)..
However, I will say the TS-450s is DANG sensitive of SWR. I had a loose connection @ my tuner, and it found that. Did the same thing you are experiencing there W4BOH.
My advise is: Ditch the auto tuner for now. Fire up the radio into a dummy load. If radio does not exhibit problem, re-attach tuner to radio. Install dummy load on tuner, and test again. IF problem is not seen, start checking your antenna. IF problem is seen, it most likely is an issue with your tuner, or patch cable from rig to tuner.
MFJ tuners have been said to have issues. your issue might very well be your tuner.
Don't send your radio out for service, until you confirm the issue is with the radio. It'll be much cheaper to find and fix an antenna system problem, then to ship your radio out to a tech and receive it "no problem(s) found"
