Iraq Swears by Dowsing Rod Bomb Detector
Thank You Slashdot.org
When I was Ten years old I met an employee of my grandparents. He was a Corporal in the Army and did his tour in Viet Nam. He use to go scouting for mines and used a similar technique for finding landmines. He could even find the all plastic ones.
He taught me that technique, it's dowsing and allows you to find items you know about. What I mean by this is items you know their composition, things you have seen or held. So it's no wonder I find this article quite ordinary, I use to think everyone could do this and more....
In my mid teens I found out that was not the case.
jggimi writes "According to the New York Times, more than fifteen hundred remote sensing devices have been sold to Iraq's Ministry of the Interior, at prices ranging from $16,500 to $60,000 each. The devices are used for bomb and weapon detection at checkpoints, and have no battery or other power source. Sounds great, but according to a retired United States Air Force officer, Lt. Col. Hal Bidlack they work on the same principle as a Ouija board — the power of suggestion. He described the wand as nothing more than an explosives divining rod. Even though the device has been debunked by the US Military, the US Department of Justice, and even Sandia National Laboratories, the Iraqis are thrilled with the devices. 'Whether it's magic or scientific, what I care about is it detects bombs,' said Maj. Gen. Jehad al-Jabiri, head of the Ministry of the Interior's General Directorate for Combating Explosives."

When it's time, it's time, and it may be sooner than you think.
Well, They WORK is the bottom line...... No one seems to be able to explain just how they work.
I just watched a fellow from our local government plumbing inspection service use two bent coat hangers to locate some buried pipes a few days ago.....
I asked him just why that system works and he rattled off some mumbo jumbo about "electro magnetic resonance"..... In other words he had no idea.
I saw ads for these devices many years ago, And asked a local professional trench digging service owner about them. His quote was to "save your money" "A pair of bent welding rods or coat hangers work just as good". And he went on to show me how to do it. And it DOES work!!!!! But I am not ready to bet any large amount of money that I "located" all the buried wires or pipes before I dig!!!!!
it is weird. I have seen construction guys mark out underground pipes by dousing. and they weren't wrong!
Or the well diggers and whats it called its a willow rod and the number of times it bounces is how many feet down water is. And they aint wrong by much.
cut up two coat hangers. the short piece from the hook to the long part is the handle. you can straighten the rest out or just use thelong part. for the deluxe version, put that in a bic pen plastic tube.
hold them in front of you, arms parallel, forearms level, about 5 degrees down.
walk in a circle around a fire hydrant. big circle, 15-20 feet.
at some point, the rods will start to cross. as you move forward, the rods will cross at a steeper angle, the crossing point will be above the same spot on the ground. when you pass the pipe, the rods will drop straight ahead.
the pipe will appear to be offset from the hydrant, 3 to 4 feet. That is the depth the pipe is buried at. could be north, south, east or west - that is dependent on the dowser.
if you want the rods to separate instead of cross, they will.

Years back I had a girlfriend who's parents needed to locate some underground water lines. They were going to do some digging in the yard which had underground sprinklers and didn't want to whack any. So GF's parents decide to call the local 'water witch' much to the entertainment of GF's younger brother who didn't believe in anything, let alone water witching. Paul was his name and I believe it still is. WW gets there and Paul is chomping at the bit to be able to make fun of the WW. Problem is, WW made two perfect picks in the first ten minutes. By the end of a half hour, WW mapped out the entire underground sprinkler system using a bent piece of wire.
Paul was beside himself and wrought with curiosity. Before the sun set, Paul was using a piece of wire to find underground water pipes as he was instructed by the WW.
It just works and it only works for some people. As you can see, faith is not the basis to the effect. There is more to it.

QRZ signatures are like underwear, you should change yours once a year whether you need to or not.
Several years ago Consumer Reorts did a test where they buried a network of pipes, some dry, some with water, or something like that. Then they invited a bunch of browser experts to find the water.
The result was that they were not successful more than expected from averages.
I don't think I want to get close enuff to a mine to test the claim. The mine might be smarter than I am.
