The reason that you are not getting a single, positive and coherent answer is that the rules for casual foxhunts tend to vary from place to place.
There are official rules for the radiosport type foxhunts, where they compete locally, regionally and internationally, but most local groups aren't that interested in being official - they just want to have fun and be get their skills polished up for tracking down occasional problems they encounter with the local repeater.
We don't foxhunt at my location very much if any, because we are located within spitting distance of the Mexican border and guess where most of the problem VHF transmissions tend to originate here?
The one occasion that I can remember a problem here being DF'ed was when a couple of precocious grandkids got into grandpa's hamshack, which he had locked up when he quit being active as a ham. They thought it was funny to use nasty language on the radio, which was tuned to the local repeater. Somebody tracked down the transmissions, the kids got their britches dusted, and that was the end of the problem. One good side effect was that grandpa decided to sell the equipment, and ended up with some extra cash.
So read up on foxhunting, and start off with something simple and fun to do. I hear that a barbeque afterward is very popular, and sometimes there are prizes for the winners, like immunity from being elected to any club position for a year. - Something like that, whatever tickles everyone's fancy.
The main thing is to have fun, so everybody wants to be there for the next foxhunt.
