place your bets - who will take the Sweepstakes Club competition this year?
the PVRC had a 2 million point advantage on the NCCC last year to take the coveted 75th Anniversary gavel. this will no doubt spur a response from the NCCC. rumor also has it that the SMC will make an effort to push the PVRC off the top position.
who will come out on top? will the SMC lay waste to both NCCC and PVRC?

I don't know... I'll root for the RDCITBC... Random Dudes Contesting In Their Bathrobes Club.
I'm going to use this one for listening, trying to copy stations. If, by the near-end of the contest, I feel I can copy enough to try and contact a station, I will. But, I doubt it. CW is still my weakest mode.

Brian,
When I first started doing CWSS in 99, I would only hunt and pounce because I was not copying like I can now. I would listen for the exchange many times of a station I was interested in calling. Once I pretty much had the exchange down, I would call and work the station. The important thing here is know the number increments and account for that.
Heck, even now when I S&P I will listen to an exchange again afterwards and make sure I get the exchange right.
You will also find that your copying speed will go up during contests too because the exchanges are similar.

You know the first part is always a number... the second is the precedence (Q, A, B, U, M), callsign again... then another number.. then a letter group.
And that is it!
The lookup table in your head will get used to this and your copying speed goes up.
Try it out! You never know until you try
Be warned.. it gets addicting.
And we need more participants... so get the other hams in the RDCITBC on the air! heheheh

Brian, like Jason says, a formatted exchange is much easier to copy than random ragchew, because contest exchange vocabulary is very limited.
You know certain parts can only be numbers, one part a single letter, the next a mixed group with a single number, etc.
And the only part of the SS exchange that changes from QSO to QSO is the leading number group. So once you know the precedence, callsign, check and section of a particular station, don't be afraid to send your own call sign and ask for QRS. You are points and perhaps a new multiplier for him/her, after all. They'll be glad to have you in the log.
