WASHINGTON, Nov 3 (Reuters) - The U.S. military said on Tuesday it is now tracking 800 maneuverable satellites on a daily basis for possible collisions and expects to add 500 more non-maneuvering satellites by year's end.

Gettin' just too dadburned crowded up there. The upside is that soon there will be so much metal, it will be just one huge passive reflector around the equator.

QRZ signatures are like underwear, you should change yours once a year whether you need to or not.
Hey, not to fear people ... the U.S. Military is on it!
Why, I'm willing to bet they'll have this disaster in the making fixed up in no time flat - right after that terrorist dude they've been after for what, eight years now, dies of either natural causes or old age!*
*And you best believe that that is what's gonna get this guy if he don't die of either boredom waiting for us to get him or from a laughing jag at how the armed forces of our fine country our doing themselves in better than he could ever hope to. What slays me is that once he does kick off the government and military will take all the credit for it.

A few years ago I worked with a fellow who's job a few years before I met him was to watch near earth objects in space.
I guess our and the Soviet Union's systems couldn't tell the difference between asteroids or Satellites falling from the sky and nukes. After a couple of issues someone decided to start tracking this stuff.

This post provides interesting insight. Would you please be kind enough to outline the education and experience leading to your expertise on U.S. Military capabilities and performance?
