The SPT 1800 family uses the Palm Computing platform. Programmers can build solutions from numerous standard development environments. The standard 8 MB of RAM is excellent for large data or program storage demands. Flash ROM expands is also 8 MB.

Developers can use standard Palm OS™ development tools to write custom applications quickly and inexpensively. The development tool kit includes Symbol Application Program Interfaces (API) that control the scanner, enable local area network communications, and manipulate data input and printing using the serial or infrared ports. A growing number of software development tools including CodeWarrior, SatelliteForms™, PenRight!, AvantGo and Riverbed Scout MTS, support APIs from Symbol in their application development tool sets.
Integration with Database Creations, Inc. Software

The SPT 1800 is the recommended device designed for use with the add-on bar coding modules developed for use with Business! accounting products, and the Inventory Manager. Developed by Database Creations, inc. both products are developed in Microsoft Access and include all source code for complete customization by the user.

Using the SPT 1800 with the bar code module in one of these products, the user can record inventory inflows/outflows, and perform physical inventory reconciliations. Simply record your inventory data into SPT 1800, connect the device to your PC and use the programs provided with the bar coding module to upload the data into the Inventory module. The user then has full control over editing the data and writing new or corrected inventory information to the application.
