Thumbs down RTTY

Ah yes, one of the many rtty contests this week end. How could I have forgotten about the wide signals and constant carriers to say nothing of indiscriminent frequency selection. What a bunch of rude characters. Had a number of qso's busted up. Thanks guy's, you're great and a real benefit to the nation and fellow operators.

I found it kind of depressing that they just _had_ to spam all over 3.580 and 7.070.

Lord Forbid the PSK crew gets 1 kilohertz of bandwidth to ragchew at 10 watts =/

I understand the attraction and historical significance of RTTY, as well as the fun of contesting, but the "macro jockeys" running max power on gentleman's-agreement segments geared for other modes aren't really the best ambassadors of the mode.

I heard one guy auto-CQing for _thirteen minutes_ on 7.070 with not one contact. Hint: maybe time to QSY.

Must have been all those folks working on the digital part of the new WAS Triple Play. I worked 43 states on RTTY this weekend, and already have 13 of them confirmed in LoTW. I'll bet some ops worked all 50 this weekend.

Next weekend, it's CW time - the NAQP CW. Who will complain about that one?

And I can't wait!

Doubtful anyone will complain about it, though. Curious, isn't it?

If no one else does, I will. Just to complain about a contest.

Are you kidding me?

They do not even take up the whole band like SSB contests.

They take a portion that is never really in use.

I made 15 PSK contacts this weekend on 14.070 not even during one of those qso's was there a RTTY carrier.
