Default SSB, QRP, 5 tubes, Neat Project!

I'm continually impressed by the homebrew projects of dxers. What I like the most is that they tend to capture simplicity and functionality in interesting ways.

Very nice, diode ring mixers, VXO, and a proper filter. That thing should outperform many of the "classic" handbook designs from the 50's and 60's.

My wifes guitar amp has some EL84's in it... hmm.

That is a cool little project. By the way, you can substitute 6BQ5's for the EL84's. I just might wire one up.

Subs:
EF80 (6BX6/6BY7)
EBF83 (6DR8)
ECF80 (6BL8/7463)
6BK7 (6AQ8)

Do you know of any other tube substitutions that could be made?

One of the things I really like about it is that it uses CB crystals in the VXO so that it's fairly cheap and easy to get wide band coverage. I really like it when a project reuses otherwise trash technology.

I edited my post to show the most available subs. There are others but you should check the specs anyway. The ones I listed are just about on the money.

That's awesome. I wouldn't mind taking a crack at building that, actually.

See, homebrewing is still alive and well. It just seems to be restricted to QRP and microwaves.
