Heil Mobile Mike (HMM)
I got one because I suspected the mic that came with my '857 wasn't getting the job done. It's actually a dual element mic, with one element being "full range" and the other, called "dx" restricts the audio to be more "punchy."
I haven't had it long, but it seems well made, and, with the Yaesu adapter, was plug and play with the radio. Haven't had a QSO yet where condx warranted a critical audio report, but I haven't had any "bad audio" reports.
The mic comes standard with a standard 8-pin round, metal, mic connector, and I'm glad of that. The adapter (RJ45 to mic connector) was $25.00, but that saved me money because a crimper for an RJ-45 if $40.00. And I now can try different mics on the "real" mic connector!
Only one question or mystery. This mic doesn't show up on the Heil website. Guess I should contact them about that.
Given Heil's reputation, I expect I'm going to really love this mic the more I get to know it.
