Default Wimo MTFT 11370 Magnetic Balun Antenna

Hi Chas,

Sorry I didn't see your thread earlier. I bought the above antenna (66 feet version) complete with the outdoor weatherproofed magnetic balun just over a year ago and found it worked very well for me. I had previously tried a
G5RV from a former address but just couldn't fit it into my present garden.

Dipoles etc also seemed to produce TVI, according to my neighbours and my experiments with a long wire ended up with RF in the shack despite using an earth, so I used the above antenna, fed from the bottom of the garden. I also used a counterpoise wire and an earth - left over from the above "experiments" - from the ATU in the shack. The antenna is of course fed with coax from the balun, which conveniently clamps to a 20 ft pole at the bottom of garden, the other end of the long wire being tied off a pole at the house end.

Performance is very good, and despite being a quarter wave only on 80, I have had good reports on that band from all over the UK and Europe with it. Gets out well on the other HF bands too. In my mind it compares very favourably with my old G5RV at my last QTH, despite that antenna being a full size (102 ft) G5RV. Hope this helps - am sorry I didn't see your earlier message!

Regards,

Eddie

Hello Eddie many thanks for the reply. I went and bought one which I now use and like you find it not to bad. Have worked all bands inc topband"not DX"

Because of the way I have to use it not in one line possibly performance is down a little.
Thanks
Again
Chas

PS what length counterpoise do you use?

Hi there i have been thinking about one of these baluns for my 130ft inverted L can you tell me what sort of swr readings you get without an atu? do they help to bring the antenna near to resonance? i have several ground radials 60ft plus long

Default sorry for the late reply

Sorry for the late reply.
The SWR readings bypassing my FT950 auto atu using 20mtr wire.

160 2.8
80 1.8
40 2.0
20 1.8
all other 1.5
all tune up ok with auto atu.

Hope this helps
