ramsey electronics is selling a 2m receiver kit . Since I sold my only 2m radio,I want to start listening again on 2m. I didnt want to plunk a great deal of money(reason why I sold my 2m radio) then I saw this kit. Has anybody built this kit, Is it worth it?
I got a Ramsey Ia wmbic keyer... It was a decent kit, but... it was NOTHING like I had expected! It did NOT work as I thought it would. I felt "ripped off". For the money, I could have gotten one of the TinyKeyers or whatever they are called, and it would have worked exactly as expected.
For just a little more, you can find a used 2m transceiver, and talk too.
You can download the manual. It doesn't include the schematic, but it does have assembly and operating instructions that can give you a good idea of what you're getting. My only experience with them is their FM Broadcasters, and they work very well.
Thanks for the replies. From what I can see , they are not very good kit. I saw an Elenco 2m/6m FM receiver which includes the case too, and is cheaper,
Well, yes, that's the truth, so what you're paying extra for is the fun and learning experience of building the kit. In that respect, make sure you're getting what you want.
In that light, I'll add that I've gotten very good support from Ramsey.
