I recently acquired a 655B EQ unit to run my audio thru now and then. Never did work quite right. I contacted MFJ and was told to send it in. Found out 2 pots or caps, forget which, were installed incorrectly and another was flip flopped (not sure what that means), but they corrected it and sent it back.

Kinda bothers me with their QA. Ten Tec is much the same though so can't always just say MFJ.

Another MFJ "semi-kit." It's been a recurrent theme here about their quality control. But if you look at the warrantee, it specifically says it's ok to fix it yourself, you won't void it. So if you get something from MFJ and it looks like there's something wrong, go ahead and dig into it to find the problem. If it's a bad component, MFJ will replace it.

I recently got their balanced balanced antenna tuner & it had a bad solder joint that I had to fix.

I sent it back to them, it was mis-wired but they corrected it. Still sounds like a bit of distortion in the monitored audio. I may never use it again.
May end up sitting on a shelf.

Same thing here. You would think MFJ would tighten up and check each piece of gear before they ship it. It is so much trouble repacking and shipping things back to them that it is worthwile to at least troubleshoot it yourself. I was lucky finding an unsoldered joint on one of the pots which was a quick fix. Now it works like a champ and use it with Heils Heritage microphone since the 655B excepts a balanced 600 ohm microphone.

Question Haven't had a problem yet!

In thirty years or so of operation, I've bought several items from MFJ and I've apparently been very fortunate, because I've never had a problem with any of them. On the other hand, I bought a brand new keyer (KR-60A, what a beauty!) from Ten Tec years back that I had to repair and from Dentron (may they rest in peace) an MLA-1200 linear amplifier with the power switch miswired. I fixed that, too. I guess it's the luck of the draw. However, I heartily agree (based on the volume of complaints I've read) that MFJ should really tighten up their QA. Of course, if the manufacture is subcontracted off shore, then it's a bit more of a challenge.
