I have been using a Heil Handi Mic. on my Kenwood ts 2000 with no trouble. When I switched to the Yaesu ft2000 I got the heil Yaesu cable and thats when the fun began. It started with a low audio hum on transmit and I thought rf. Checked the shack and everything was clean. When I next checked the mic and the cable I found the following. At the radio connection on the Heil /Yaesu cable the outside shield wire is folded back and held in place by the mic plug under the cable strain bracket. The only connection is to the shell of the connector.
I soldered this wire to pin 5 of the mic plug which is listed as the mic audio ground in the Yaesu manual and the hum went away.
If you have hum with the heil mic using this cable take the connector apart and check to see if anything is hooked to pin 5. This is where the shield wire should go.
I love the mic and the radio and am glad I got them to work together.
