Both QST and CQ have recently done a review of this amplifier. For those of you have used this amp, how has it performed for you.

I can't wait to see the reviews also with this amp. I hope some positive feedback responds to this question. Good posting.

Thumbs up

In a word: SWEET !

I use it in combination with an Icom ProIII, SteppIR 4 Element w/30-40 add on.

I found out when I put it on my 160 antenna that I had to re tune the antenna slightly for a lower SWR. My antenna was at 2.0 without a tuner and the Tokyo Amp was unhappy looking at a 2.0 to 1 SWR so I got out my handy dandy MFJ antenna analyzer and re tuned the antenna to range from 1.1 to 1 to 1.8 to 1 and now the amp is just as happy as a little kid on Sunday Morning with the funny papers.

The SteppIR of course is always flat across all bands so their is never a problem from 6 meters to 40 meters.

I get 700 watts out with 30 watts of drive.
If I need more power then I turn up the drive to 65 watts and I get from 875 to 950 watts out.

Band changes are seamless. Just change the band switch on the transceiver and the amp follows along without any hesitation.

I will be adding a 220 ckt to the ham shack in the next few days.

I am considering the purchase of another one to connect to my Icom 751A because the radios are so far apart that the amplifier interface cable isn't long enough to reach the second radio.

The amp comes with interface cables for Kenwood, Icom and Yeasu and the instructions are clear and well written. Hookup time requires less than 5 minutes once the amplifier is removed from the box.

I put my amp on the end of my desk and have never received a report of someone being able to hear the fan. I have checked several times on 17 meters and have not received a report about noise from the fan. I picked 17 meters to test this because the band is generally very quite and I am liking that band more every time I operate on it.

Ordered mine from HRO Denver on Monday and on Friday it was delivered by UPS.

Am I happy with the amp -- U bet
Would I buy another -- U bet
Is it expensive as compared to others U bet
However, the auto band switching feature makes it all worthwhile in my estimation.
