Default FT 857D TX on 5 mhz (UK)

Hi Folks,

Can anybody help me. I have applied for an NOV to operate on the 5mhz band here in the UK. I have an FT450 which has the spot freqs already programmed in. The problem being that my FT857D does'nt appear to do the same. The manual states that the US version has the freqs in the memory but I cannot sus out if mine has the same. Is there a mod? Before I get shot down in flames by the 'out of bands' crew... I do not want to tx out of the amateur bands, just the 5 mhz allocation. I don,t really want to broadband my radio. Any suggestions guys?

I just programmed the 60M frequencies into my old TS440s memory channels, in fact other than wwv freqs, thisw is the only use I found for the memories !
I'm sure a much newer rig has this feature also.

You should see the following frequencies.

1) 5330.5 kHz
2) 5346.5 kHz
3) 5366.5 kHz
4) 5371.5 kHz
5) 5403.5 kHz

More info can be found on ARRL's site

http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/reg...aq-60.html#two

My FT-857D has them preprogrammed in the memory and I would think the UK model would be the same.

I agree K8JD! WWV, 60 meters channels ( frequencies ), SKCC and FISTS frequencies are all that I have in my DX-70TH.

Unhappy FT 857 on 5Mhz

Thanks for the replys guys... I have finally had word back from Yaesu UK and according to them, the only way to get a UK spec FT857 to tx on 5 Mhz is to wideband the whole radio. This will void any warrenty so I think I will just use my FT450 till I decide if I will, or won't open up the 857. Thanks for the comments. Ian G0YAP.

I assume they mean the hardware mod not the software version ?

Will the wideband mod allow transmit on the marine SSB and VHF bands?

I'm interested in knowing simply for the sake of emergency use, in case my legal marine transceivers fail...

The hardware mod and the software mod, if it works with your radio version, both make the radio fully windband. So as an emergency marine radio yes.
If the software mod works for you it can be reversed by the same software or by a factory reset. But it apears thet te vatest FT-857D does not respond to the software as far as I can tell.

Thanks. Not decided if I will do the mod, but good to know it's plausible (depending on version).

Have you ever considered writing to Yaesu and asking them if they could modify your 857D so it operates on 60 meters instead of modifying the radio yourself?
