For a couple of feet you can roll your own.

i was just looking at a youtube video of an older gentleman making it out of a plastic cutting board. my question is, how will that effect the antenna? im making this for a HT. since once hung the lines could twist and come closer to each other.

Use twin lead. You can find that in lots of places. Google "twin lead J-pole" for construction details.

The antenna forum might give you better results.

I bought my 2m roll up Slim Jim from N9TAX via ebay (do an advanced search for his call sign as seller). I could not buy the materials for what his complete antennas sell for.

Default Ladder line source

I just bought several feet, cut to length, from Vetco Electronics (brick and mortor store) in Bellevue, WA. Sorry, I don't have their phone number at hand.

I'm going to try my hand at building a roll up J-pole.

+1 Got one with 16' of feedline. great way for someone just starting to get a HT up and running imho. plus portable too. Got mine hanging off a 17' piece of pvc and feeding thru a window.
you can email N9TAX and he will cheerfully answer any question s you have.

You can pick up 300 ohm twin lead at most home stores, rat shack etc. I have made a few J Poles from it and they work great. I have also made a few from 450 ohm window line. Good luck and happy experimenting. Let us know how it turns out.
