I am wanting to get my Ham ticket but where to study up on it?I think I have gone as far with CB as I want to.I have a freind are two that ar hams.but due to works times it is not where we can get together.I am thinking online might be good or a downloaded program might work for me also.
First, forget everything you learned on the dreaded CB. Start now by unplugging your CB and sending it to the swap meet.
There are some great online resources, right here on this site. You can also get printed study guides at w5yi.org or on amazon.com. The ARRL has a listing of affiliated clubs, you should find a club in your area and go to a meeting or two - don't mention CB. You will/should find people there who will be willing to help you get started. Getting licensed is the easy part of the hobby.
Good luck with the study guides.

Great idea to get your ham license! When I started I knew NOTHING about ham radio. I went to the ARRL website and found a list of clubs that I could contact about testing and what to study. I went to their website and purchased the Ham Radio study manual that tells you bascally everything you need to know to become a ham. Cost is about $25. I also searched around and found this site and a couple of others that have online practice ham tests that you can access. I contacted the person at my local ham club and inquired about their testing schedule and got on their registration list. Then at the next scheduled meeting I went to a ham club meeting and started to meet other local hams and find out more about ham radio. Last March I tested and passed the Tech exam and am still with the local club. They have monthly meetings, a weekly net and local ARES chapter that I am also with. Before getting my license I went online and found an inexpensive 2m HT to buy and that was my "station" until about 2 months ago when I finally was able to buy a mobile radio. Hope this helps and good luck

Actually some CBs make FINE ten meter rigs. I'd just unplug it and STORE it until you can properly modify itl

I took my Technician exam this evening and easily passed. I encourage you to jump in and get your feet wet!
I used two Technician study guides, freely available on the Internet. One is from Dan Romanchik (KB6NU). The other is study notes from AH0A. I downloaded both and printed them. For me, they were great study guides. I've attached both at the bottom of this message.
I'm glad you're interested in becoming a ham. It's a fun hobby!
Check out for the Ham Class (Podclass) Podcast also. Not sure the exact site, but just google and you will find it. Its easy to listen too and I hear its extremely helpful.

www.hamradioclass.com/download.html is the one I used. Excellent resource!
And/or purchase or get at the library: "The ARRL Ham Radio License Manual"
I hope that site is as helpful on section 4 of the General class manual. That's where it's getting difficult for me.
