I have found out Google isn't good for finding most parts, I've had much better luck keeping a folder full of web address for parts suppliers.

The fact is that Mouser is probably the most comprehensive source of contemporary discrete components and ancillary packages out there today. Newark is likely the same, but is not as "small hobbyist friendly" as Mouser. I ordered once from Newark, and once doing business with Mouser have never looked back. Of course, some things can only be found at places like RFParts and Surplus Sales of Nebraska. Can you say, "build your own boatanchor..."?
