Got me a good yaesu ft-480r xciever but no tone encoder. Anyone got a spare Yaesu fts-64e laying around? Well, maybe a good homebrew tone encoder circuit that would work? Any help will be appreciated.

Amateur Electronic Supply sells several types. external /switchable freq for 50 bucks,
small internal single freq for about 20.
Some of the cheap ones you can wire in a set of DIP switches to change freq, but you need a chart.
I have a TU-6 kenwood tone chip i did this with in my TH205. around here most repeaters use the same tone so you can switch repeaters with out changing the tone.

The source for aftermarket encoders and decoders. CommSpec has excellent products and they have the info you need to connect their devices to just about any rig.

Talking Yaesu FT-480R (Yaesu FTS-64E tone encoder try)

Got me a good Yaesu FT-480R for cievere but not tone encoder. Anyone have a spare Yaesu FTS-64E, which in turn? Well, maybe a good tone circuit homebrew encoder that would work? Any help will be appreciated in the same tone so you can spend repeaters which change the tone.
Accept news from experts who know where to find FTS-64 tone encoder try.
    thanks very much

I purchased a Yaesu FT-480R transceiver, but it did not include the external CTCSS (tone) encoder option. Does anyone have a spare Yaesu FTS-64e ?
Well, maybe a good homebrew tone encoder circuit that would work?
    Any help will be appreciated.
The Yaesu FT-480R was made in the late 1970s/early 1980s.
This specific radio, as you mentioned, is designed to be interfaced to External FTS-64E encoder for CTCSS operation.
VERY RARE to find that option available -- 30 years later.

Here is an electronic copy of the Yaesu FT-480R manual (in case you did not get that with radio)
    http://www.rigpix.com/yaesu/ft480r_manual.pdf

The best solution would be to go to Communication Specialists (ComSpec) and purchase their
    TE-32 or TE-32D External Encoder.
    http://www.com-spec.com/te32.htm

You can then wire the 3-conductor cable to the proper connector for your radio -- just like the FTS-64E !
PAGE 6 of FT-480R manual has diagram so you can read and understand.

ComSpec has been in business for over 35 years -- supplying CTCSS and other signaling solutions for the Land Mobile (Public Safety, Gov't, Military) and Amateur Radio services. I have been using their CTCSS products for almost that long!

You will need to find the proper 4-pin connector to plug into the FT-480R ToneIN connector
(seen on page 6 of owner's manual) -- Call Yaesu parts in California for part number or substitute advice.

    Default FTS-64 Help!!

I purchased the FTS-64 encoder yesterday at a ham fest. Does anyone have a manual or wiring diagram for this? I have scanned the internet, and cannot locate one. I am attempting to install this in my FT-227R, and would like to explore using the external accy connector vs. wiring to the pins for the factory internal tone board. Any help greatly appreciated!!

    Jeremy, Camillo, and Don ---

I just happen to see a Yaesu FTS-64 at a friend's workbench this afternoon (tied to a Drake UV-3).
I was obvious when I saw it -- that this is actually an earlier OEM version of the
    ComSpec TE-32 CTCSS encoder !!
    http://www.com-spec.com/te32.htm

The major difference is the switch used (multiple positions w/o toggle switch).

    TE-32 Brochure
    http://www.com-spec.com/insheet/te-32.pdf

    Yaesu FT-227RA Hookup for the ComSpec SS-64 / TE-32
For the TE-32 ... the White wire is used instead of the Yellow wire on SS-64.
BTW the TE-32 is an SS-64 in an external box with a selector switch.

CONTACT ComSpec and Yaesu regarding availability of any proprietary connectors used by Yaesu radios for interconnect.
