The October 2005 issue of World Radio is out and it has a very well written article on SPAR by our own QRZ poster, Walt Fair Jr., W5ALT.
Congratulations Walt Job well done.
It also brings to mind I have neglected the SPAR Forum in the past, however you have my word that will be rectified immediately. # # #

Hey, All right! Yes, I surf the SPAR site on occasion and it's a great setup. (Can't wait until they get the CW testing process set up)
This is the first I have heard of World Radio. Is there somewhere I can get a copy? Borders Books maybe?

www.wr6wr.com will tell you what you need to know about subscription and circulation. #You can even request a sample copy. It is the most techinically informative, least political and least pretentious of high profile ham magazines.
I get it as a perk of my membership in Amateur Radio Lighthouse House Society. Lighthouse activation is about the only time I use phone on HF.
I just received the current issue of WR yesterday, but didn't open it until this morning and was quite surprised and delighted to see W5ALT's article. #Bien escrito, Walt!
Steve
If you have to worry about the cost of HF e-mail, you can't afford the boat.

UEY, #is there some reason you just couldn't bear to post what in hell SPAR #is, stands for, #and quite possibly the website?
http://www.spar.ca/
http://www.spar.ie/
http://www.spar-int.com/nucontr....details
http://news.com.com/Lawyers....60.html
or one of the other 5,180,000 #hits on Google?
or maybe just this?
what you are referring to ??

W7DJM,
Yes there was and is a reason, for one thing I figured anyone who has tried to stay current on Amateur Activities knows what SPAR stands for.
The second was to congratulate Walt on a fine article, not to try and place an ad for SPAR on QRZ.
The third was to bring Walt's work to the attention of the members of QRZ.
Besides it is good practice for some individuals to learn to use a search engine and not rely on some one else doing the leg work and spoon feeding them the info.
Have a good day,and thank you for your interest !!

AG3Y,
I guess you could say that "HAM" is the same as ham,but I always looked at it as ham was limited to those who don't feel they want the very best.
I have used "HAM" ever since the late 40's and most predominatley after 1956,when I was allowed to join the Fratetnal Order of Amateur Radio. It was my way of showing my gratitude for letting me join the exclusive club of HAM's.
I know some "Johnny-come lately's"who cut their teeth on the internet do not approve, but I was around before Al Gore was born, and figure if the internut's don't like it,they should find some one who cares........
If some one wants to excel at proper spelling and use of grammar,I don't recommend the internet as the place to start. The task would be so Herculean it would overcome a mere mortal.
I use upper case "HAM" just as I do "K6UEY" because I am proud to be part of Amateur Radio and I want the World to know it !!
Have a GOOD day, I know I will !! # #

Hi Orv, I just posted on another thread, and was NOT referring to you when I mentioned the differences between Upper Case HAM and lower case ham . I wasn't even thinking about that. Forgive me if you were thinking I was pointing a finger at you. It really was just a poor attempt at humor, based on the fact that no one really knows for sure what the letters really stand for.
However, on this other thread, a new poster was talking about learning more about "HAM" , which is a real mis-use of the term. We are "hams" "Hams", or "HAMs" , what I prefer to refer ourselves as, "amateur radio operators". But the phrase "ham" should have the word "radio" following it any time that the station, or operation enters into the discussion. I work "ham radio", whenever I transmit and receive. I do not "HAM" !
73 to you, Orv, and thanks for sticking by the advocation for so many years. You have been a real positive contributer to "The Amateur Radio Service" !
