I love this rig. Aprs without a pc is cool. I would recomend building a keyboard adapter to run a 101 key ps-2 keboard with it. As entering messages with the hand mike is slow. TNC could be better if could copy weaker signals better.

If you not into aprs or dont want to be, save your money and get a regular dual bander.

Display is easy to read in the mobile. The speaker in the rig stinks, I run an external.

I have had my tm-d700 for almost a year, and i love it. aside form computerless packet operation it is a great dual band radio.

at first i had bad audio, but i sent it to kenwood and fixed now its even better and the cross band repeat actually works now

I am looking into getting a TM-D700A specifically for APRS and packet. I downloaded the manual, but it references another manual for SPECIALIZED COMMUNICATIONS. Can anyone tell me how easy it was to set up the radio with the GPS (I'm looking into the G4T that is apparantely compatible) and also hoping that I can connect my laptop to do some packet or at least have a larger screen to view the entire country on APRS.

Also, if I'm using APRS, am I still able to do some packet or is it one or the ohter?

    Thanks

I forgot to ask, what antenna is recommended for mobile operation? I'm driving a Kia Spectra so a trunk mount would be preferred if possible. Also, I have a 6' height limit for my car (I frequently park in garages).

I found the SPECIALZIED COMMUNICATIONS manual (which I'm printing out as I write) but I'm hoping someone can fill me in on how easy it is to get started. It appears that the GPS will hook up in the front and possibly my laptop in the rear.
