HACKENSACK, NJ. The Nutley Amateur Radio Society will be re-activating the radio room of the World War II submarine USS Ling (SS-297.) on June 6, 2015. The USS Ling is a Balao class fleet submarine, 312 feet long, weighing approximately 2,500 tons and is a permanent museum ship, berthed on the Hackensack River at 78 River Street, Hackensack, New Jersey.
The Nutley ARS will be participating in the Museum Ships Weekend Event sponsored by The Battleship New Jersey Amateur Radio Station. It is expected that amateur radio operators will activate amateur radio stations on over 100 museum ships worldwide during the event. The object, of which, is for amateur radio operators (HAM radio operators) to confirm contact with as many of the "activated" museum ships, as possible, in a 24-hour period.
Our times of operation this year will be from 1600Z to 2300Z.
Donations to the NJ Naval Museum are welcome and desperately needed to continue operating.
