10M and 20M PARACHUTE MOBILE SSB QSOs Sunday May 31, over Byron CA by af6im » Mon May 18, 2015 5:14 pm Jumping on May 31 at Byron CA carrying a Yaesu FT 817 and end fed dipole trailing wire antenna. Will be making SSB QSOs under open canopy starting at about 12,000 ft. Should work line of sight contacts and who knows, maybe further if conditions permit. Will be making several jumps between roughly 11:30 AM CA time and 4 PM. We have little control over scheduling as experienced jumpers pay $22 per jump and tandem jumpers pay over $200.http://bayareaskydiving.com/?gclid=CIOp ... fgodP4UACA Guess who gets boarding priority? We will have unique QSL cards for this event, our 20th Parachute Mobile mission. Details and freqs will be posted on www.parachutemobile.com as the event nears. 73 Mark AF6IM http://www.parachutemobile.com af6im@arrl.net <dl class="postprofile" id="profile3596" style="margin: 5px 0px 10px; min-height: 80px; color: rgb(102, 102, 102); border-left-width: 1px; border-left-style: solid; border-left-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); width: 352.65625px; float: right; display: inline; font-family: Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 10px; background-color: rgb(225, 235, 242);"><dt style="margin: 0px 0px 0px 8px; padding: 0px; line-height: 1.2em;">af6im</dt><dd style="margin: 0px 0px 0px 8px; padding: 0px; line-height: 1.2em;"> </dd><dd style="margin: 0px 0px 0px 8px; padding: 0px; line-height: 1.2em;">Posts: 1</dd><dd style="margin: 0px 0px 0px 8px; padding: 0px; line-height: 1.2em;">Joined: Thu May 14, 2015 9:32 pm</dd><dd style="margin: 0px 0px 0px 8px; padding: 0px; line-height: 1.2em;"></dd></dl>
WOW that's fun....do you know what frequency you will use? and will each drop ( sorry jump) be one qso or just a bunch of 59001etc and how long does it take to float down from 12000ft ? I have worked from some strange places and operate portable from a half size replica military landrover, ( not a wooden toy one) but never worked someone falling from a great height.!!! hope it all goes well. I'm sure freq will be posted soon to parachute mobile.org. Jumper will deploy main canopy just after exit so QSOs can be done as he floats down. Of course give jumper some time to do safety checks before babbling on the radio. And he will sign off radio when getting close to ground for a safe landing. Follow them on APRS! Go to aprs.fi or findu.com, and search for AF6IM for Jumper 1, or KF6WRW for Jumper 2. We plan for live streaming video, if we don't have air-to-ground video from jumper, we will switch to ground camera so you can see us all running around making things happen: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/mfwright mobile devices: http://m.ustream.tv/channel/mfwright ham people: 73! WOW! That's fantastic, well done and good luck. I also feel I should do my bit and return the favour, consequently I shall be jumping from an occasional table in my lounge with my Baofeng UV-5R in hand. It may be a short QSO.
Proposed plan on HF freq from NE6RD is we will operate at 28.590 and if busy move down in 3K increments down to 28.500. News as it develops, I hope we get everything sorted and post on parachutemobile.org. For me I need to test my streaming video this weekend.
