    Hi, Rudy...

    Just to clarify...
MARS is not the "Military Armament Research System". It stands for "Military Affiliate Radio System"
Specially authorized Amateur Radio operators assisting with military communications needs.

Sorry Rudy but the British singer Cliff Richard is NOT a ham. The founder of Dolby is RAY Dolby not Tony Dolby (G3TZH). Also it is very doubtful that Yuri Gargarin was licensed. I did some research some years ago and drew a blank. The callsign you give belongs to a different Yuri according to QRZ.com!

Many on the list dropped their licenses or have been inactive well over a decade... Or are dead.

How about a list showing the vibrancy of today?

For example Woz was a ham...but hasnt been for 30 years plus. Are we supposed to follow his lead, or is ham radio an historical phase?

Could we have a working link that goes directly to the page itself?

    Thanks.

Scott, just to clarify your clarification - that is the older definition of the acronym MARS.

It was changed not long ago (end 2009) to Military Auxiliary Radio System. This was intended to signify and focus a closer active relationship with the DoD / DHS / DoS.

Here are links (from the MARS wiki) to the official directive,

Rudy, the links work here - maybe the gov't is blocking access to them from outside the USA (?) But look here instead, this is my source for those links (at the end of the page), a more open site,

i not see this two links...

ok but K2UBC at the end say:

    So -- Was Gagarin UA1LO?

My opinion (and it is only my opinion) is that based on the
available evidence it's extremely unlikely that Gagarin was UA1LO. But I am
not 100% certain and I am always looking for new "facts".
