I was dozing* during the commute, so I almost missed this news item on KNX - 1070, the most listened-to (or snoozed-to) AM radio station in Southern California. #

The gist of it was that volunteer ham radio operators in Florida have been filling the communications gap in a praiseworthy fashion as cellular phones and other communications systems have failed during the current weather disaster. #Completely positive, a well-deserved pat on the back for those who've devoted their time, and a super plug for ham radio in general.

In the background was a hint of Morse code beeps . . . maybe so listeners would know it was really ham radio operators they were talking about.

*No, it wasn't my day to drive for the carpool.

It was the 3PM PDT CBS News broadcast. Very well done piece. And very complimentary to all amateur radio operators.

Wow, I wish I'd have heard that. I worked WX4MLB (National Weather Service in Melbourne, FL) as Net Control for several hours, then worked Shelter Communications for 10 1/2 hours during Hurricane Charley.

Good to see Amateurs as a whole are finally getting the recognition they deserve.

When all else fails, there's always the radio!

Does anyone have a link to where it can be heard over the internet for those of us who missed it?
